The functional medicine model of care is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s lifestyle, history, biochemical, and genetic factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.

THE UNIQUE PROCESS
Prior to your first visit:
The Clarity Call
I don’t have a full-time assistant so it is important that I set aside time to answer the phone. The easiest way for me to do that is to have you schedule a call with me. The link to schedule a call is HERE. You can choose to do a phone call or video conference. I want to answer any questions you have during that call. I try to keep it to 15 minutes, but occasionally it goes a little over, which is okay. We will determine if functional medicine can help you and if you are ready to make the changes that may be necessary. If this is for you, I will walk you through the next steps in scheduling an appointment and filling out the paperwork on the secure patient portal.
Your 1st visit:
The Detective Session
In-person only – 2 hours
You will have filled out several online forms for me that I will review prior to your appointment. During your appointment we will discuss your history and put together a timeline of your history. I will also do a non-invasive physical exam to identify nutritional deficiencies and to make sure we didn’t miss something important! We will identify the most important items that you need to start on and determine what testing may be needed before your second visit.
Your 2nd visit:
The Planning
Session
In-person or virtual visit – 1 hour
You will have completed the testing that was ordered at the first visit. We will review how you are doing with the initial changes recommended at the first visit. Then, we will review your labs and develop a comprehensive plan for what may be necessary for healing. This will guide us in determining the next steps for you and will help determine how much support you may need.

FAQ
Insurance
I will provide you with an itemized bill from your visit that you may submit to insurance. If your deductible is paid, in most cases your insurance will reimburse you for at least a portion of the visit but this cannot be guaranteed. Unfortunately, if you have Medicare, the visit cost is not covered but the labs are typically at least partially covered.
Labs
In your first visit, we will determine what labs are needed for your treatment. Almost all of the lab companies that I work with will submit the expenses to your insurance or Medicare for payment. I will do my best to let you know the potential costs before I order any testing and work within your budget to try to keep costs to a minimum.
Primary care provider
I work as a functional medicine consultant in conjunction with your current medical health care team. I am not considered a replacement for your primary care provider or your specialists. Your primary care provider will continue to provide urgent care and any annual exams that you need.
